Marcia Brubeck, a licensed clinical social worker with over 28 years of experience, sees adults and couples from her central Connecticut office. Her clients are often battling workplace stress, grief and loss, conflict, loneliness, depression, anxiety, and feelings of helplessness. Marcia is particularly keen on improving relationships, romantic and otherwise, and on promoting self-advocacy. Self-discovery and transformation at midlife and beyond are specialties.
Marcia draws on supportive, cognitive, and insight-oriented therapies. When you talk about current problems, she will notice pressure points. From your account of early experiences, she will pick out features that bear on your issues today. The social environment you find comfortable now probably has elements familiar from childhood, but the mindset and coping strategies you learned back then may well have become obsolete. When you adopt different strategies, your relationships will improve, and you will make greater progress on other fronts as well.
Depression, anxiety, and other problems often signal that your body does not like the way you are living. By learning more about your needs, physical and otherwise, you can do your best in all areas of your life. In couples counseling you and your partner will learn to communicate better, set limits appropriately, negotiate, and support each other as a team. Individual sessions, focused on self-awareness and acceptance, help you use your strengths to combat perceived weaknesses. Your personal journey will reflect your goals, values, and priorities.
Before pursuing social work, Marcia spent 25 years in book publishing and earned a law degree. She is admitted to the Connecticut bar but has never practiced law. In her private life she is passionate about deep water running, strategy board games, observing nature, and her cat, John Dewey.
