Professional statement

Dr. Arieta is a licensed clinical psychologist and has been in private practice since 2010. She has worked with clients across the lifespan in a variety of settings and using a range of modalities. Whether treating children or adults, her clinical work continues to validate the significance of early experiences on adult identity development. One's beliefs about themselves, others and the world develop in early life and any reinforcement of distorted thinking and behaving can continue to persist across the lifespan. Dr. Arieta works with clients to explore the origin of their difficulties and how these experiences contribute to the individual's current difficulties. Even in the best of circumstances individuals can develop faulty beliefs that can cause distress until they are addressed in therapy.

Dr. Arieta adopts an eclectic approach to therapy which incorporates various modalities including psychodynamic psychotherapy, attachment theory, interpersonal therapy, positive psychology and therapies rooted in addressing one's thoughts and values. Dr. Arieta works with clients to determine their goals and the appropriate modality to reach their goals.

Services are offered in person in San Rafael and virtually throughout the state of CA. Dr. Arieta consults regularly with the boards of psychology in other states and will do her part to ensure continued treatment while clients are away whether for vacation, college, etc. Please inquire if you are outside of the state of California and are interested in starting treatment.

The office is located in the Marinwood Professional Center. There is a parking lot and the complex is only a couple of blocks from the freeway exit.

Message to clients

"I wish I would have waited longer to start therapy." - nobody

One of the remarks I often hear from clients at the onset of therapy is that they wish they'd started sooner. They wished they could have worked more proactively to address their difficulties rather than waiting until their circumstances worsened. Clients sometimes hold back from initiating therapy because they think their problems are "not that bad" or because they believe their feelings are unjustified because they have good lives.

If you have been thinking about therapy but have been dragging your feet I would encourage you to act now. We can discuss your circumstances and goals and together determine a plan for your improvement. It is generally true that my clients do have good lives and still they benefit from living more intentionally, getting more clarity on their values and using that self-awareness to get re-energized about their lives and relationships.

My clients tell me I put them at ease, allow them to share freely without feeling judged, and allow them the experience of being supported and heard. I am invested in our work and I'm highly supportive, empathetic and encouraging. Let's talk to see how I can help you.
