Professional statement

Maria Kastoras is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in downtown Campbell. She works with individuals and adults of all ages. Many of Maria’s clients come in to address panic and anxiety, codependent relationships, work stress, and to understand and move forward from past trauma. She has advanced knowledge in the area of C-PTSD, PTSD, and Anxiety Disorders.

Maria is trained in CBT, Acceptance and Commitment, Parts Work, Mindfulness, and DBT. These all help regulate our nervous system by using grounding methods, by developing self compassion, and by disempowering our thoughts so they don't have control over us. In session, Maria likes to use journaling, brief guided meditations, breathing and sensory exercises, and coloring/drawing. These approaches support clients to create a safe place for themselves, where their emotions don't overwhelm or control them anymore.

Maria's style is active, safe, non-judgmental. When clients first start therapy, they can expect to share whatever they are comfortable with, and can go at their own pace. Maria will establish a warm and safe environment for them, where they can feel seen and heard.

Maria received her Master's in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago. She has worked at local community mental health clinics, helping to support adults and youth to process trauma and move forward with their goals. Outside of her therapy office, she can often be found in local parks or states parks, on nature walks. The ocean fills her with clarity and calm. Maria also work with immigrants and their lawyers, doing mental health evaluations. She offers Saturday appts, as well as evenings. There is free and easy garage and street parking right outside the office.

Message to clients

Whether you come to see me one time or for ongoing appointments, my hope is that you leave my office feeling heard and that you're not alone. Together we will build on your strengths, explore your self-esteem and self-confidence, and help make sense of the challenges around you. I can also collaborate with your doctor or psychiatrist to coordinate the best care for you, as needed.

If this is your first time looking for a therapist, you might be feeling like you'd like someone on your side. I will help make the process and experience as comfortable as it can be. I am active in sessions and ask questions, but you are the driver of what we talk about- or you can choose not to talk at all in the beginning.
