Professional statement

My experience as a counselor is diverse.

My Bachelor of Science in Health Administration is from the University of Kentucky, and I have a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. I received my license to practice as Professional Counselor (LPC) from the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board (CSWMFT Board).

I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) and have EMDR training according to the standards set forth by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA).

I worked with children, adolescents, adults, families, and couples in Cincinnati at Anchoring Hope Counseling, Right Mind Wellness Center, and The Counseling Professionals. I have worked with people to address stress, anxiety, depression, grief, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD and complex PTSD), relationship challenges, healing from partner abuse, healing from adverse childhood experiences (including sexual abuse), and behavioral addictions. Now, I started Holos Counseling, where I continue to help people overcome various problems.

Before becoming professionally licensed as a counselor, I served as a peer counselor for years in multiple settings. In this role, I provided individual support and led various groups for women seeking recovery from low self-esteem, codependency, emotionally destructive relationships, and sexual and relationship addiction.

I have years of experience with 12-step programs and appreciate their effectiveness in addressing various issues.

I am under the supervision of Margaret Pennington, LPCC-S, E.0500175-SUPV.

Message to clients

Hi! I am Maria. It’s my passion in life to help people like you to re-embrace their true selves, to become whole and free from the hurts of the past.

I named my practice Holos Counseling because the word “holos” describes what I want for you. Holos” is a Greek word meaning “altogether, assuredly.” Other uses include “wholly, altogether, actually, really – with negative: not at all.”

Let’s nurture your mind, soul, and body and tend to your heart like it should have been cared for all along. You can now give yourself all you didn’t get when you needed it, from childhood to now. You do not have to repeat the patterns of the past. You can stop being afraid of love. When you learn to love yourself, you can love others purely, and you will attract those who can love you well.

How do we do this? You do this with someone who has been there and done that. I have decades of lived experience in healing from relational trauma and understand the holistic nature of your needs. I am professionally trained in approaches proven successful in healing trauma, freeing minds from negativity, correcting self-sabotaging habits, repairing hearts, and restoring bodies to health.
