Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LMHCMarissa Friedberg is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional located in Brooklyn, NY. Marissa is an expert on anxiety. She works with clients whose anxiety leads to constant self-doubt, negative self-image, reoccurring rumination, emotional cycles, and feelings of depression. Sometimes, her clients suffer from physical manifestations of anxiety, such as panic attacks, stomachaches, headaches, or insomnia. Her goal is to teach clients stress management techniques so they can challenge their anxiety and decrease their symptoms.
Marissa practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This therapy modality is evidence-based and has shown efficacy in treating anxiety and depression. CBT centers around thoughts and thought patterns. Clients challenge their negative thought patterns, such as the ones that make unfounded assumptions or the ones that amount to debilitating self-criticism. By addressing these thought patterns, clients might find themselves feeling less anxious. Marissa also teaches clients various coping strategies for moments of distress. Clients can use these strategies when they begin to feel anxious or when they’re exposed to their triggers. Marissa encourages clients to find the coping strategies that work best for them, whether that’s deep breathing, tactile grounders, mantras, or visualizations.
Marissa earned the Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional credential after extensive training and experience working with clients who suffer from anxiety. She believes that the client should be the center of each session, and that clients should determine where the conversation takes them. Through working with Marissa, clients establish healthy routines around their thoughts and triggers so they can live less anxious lives.
