Professional statement

Strong personal and professional relationships require a toolbox of skills. When they're going well, we feel satisfied and often experience better life outcomes. However, issues like social anxiety, low self-esteem, an insecure attachment style, and trauma can impede relationships and make us feel unfulfilled and disconnected. Therapy can help. Mary Claire Schibelka specializes in helping adult individuals and couples strengthen their relationships by teaching relational skills and treating underlying issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem, trauma, and insecure attachment.

Mary Claire uses cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness training, and internal family systems therapy to help you identify negative thoughts and feelings, understand their origins, and replace them with more helpful ones. In therapy, you can practice being vulnerable and learn skills for anxiety-reduction, assertiveness, conflict resolution, and even better sex.

As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Mary Claire has the knowledge and expertise to help you understand your thoughts and emotions, how and why they formed, and how you can use them to your advantage instead of letting them get in the way of what you want. Mary Claire earned her Master's of Arts in Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University and completed her internship at The Awakening Center in Chicago, IL.

Message to clients

Fifty years ago, therapy was seen as something only "crazy" people needed. Thankfully, times have changed. Now, therapy is a tool used by the most successful people in the world. Therapy is about identifying the kind of life you want to live and the person you want to be, setting goals, and eliminating the barriers getting in the way of accomplishment.

Maybe your goal is to improve the quality of your relationship, make friends, or communicate better at work. Therapy can help you fine-tune the skills you already have while learning new strategies to replace thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are no longer working for you.
