Professional statement

Mary Kate Clucas, LCPC, is an individual psychotherapist in the Chicagoland area who specializes in treating professionals who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, C-PTSD, addictions, relationship issues and/or life transitions.

Mary Kate has nearly a decade of experience working in a variety of treatment settings, but has found immeasurable value, and her "home" in the longer-term work that individual therapy can provide. She does not believe there is a "one-size fits all" method of therapy, and believes that a holistic, collaborative approach to therapy brings about the most benefit to her clients.

When not in the therapy chair, Mary Kate enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, walking her dog and baking.

Message to clients

I specialize in working with young professionals who are feeling suffocated by the pressures of modern life. Anxious, burnt out, and stuck reaching for behaviors that no longer serve them. I am passionate about guiding individuals who feel unsatisfied with how they are showing up for themselves, their relationships and their goals.

As a therapist, I believe that everything is relational. The most important relationship we have is the one we nourish with ourselves. I empower my clients to refine, deepen, and strengthen their communication, foster emotional intimacy with themselves and others, and address cyclical relational patterns that feel difficult to end.

In session, I am direct and authentic, utilizing compassion and humor to connect with others. I practice primarily from a psychodynamic, ACT/CBT and experiential framework.

What does this mean? I think that our pasts are important. Our stories do not have to define us, nor do they limit us, but I believe that if we get curious and compassionate about where we came from, we can begin to challenge some of our beliefs, reactions, and narratives that may be holding us back from embracing our most authentic selves.

I want to help clients understand who they are, where they have been, and how to get to where they want to be, and more importantly, how they want to feel once they arrive.
