Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW Specialties • Insurance & Fees • LocationsMatt McDavid (LCSW) is a licensed clinical psychotherapist who studied and trained at Columbia University. McDavid Creative Therapy is a 100% telehealth psychotherapy practice for residents of New York and Florida that is consciously created + decidedly different. During weekly sessions, Matt practices trauma-informed care that shifts a client's focus from “what’s wrong with me?” to “what happened to me?” Understanding this distinction empowers clients to unlock compassion and pride for themselves and release misplaced shame and blame.
It's common for Matt's clients to feel disconnected from their emotions or, conversely, that they’re drowning in their feelings. They seek self-growth and relief from their fear, self-doubt, and perfectionism. Matt creates a safe and welcoming environment that allows his clients to feel comfortable opening up. He is a strengths-based therapist, believing that all individuals are resilient and unique, and that they can use their past experiences of overcoming challenges to guide their current endeavors for healing and growth. Matt incorporates therapy modalities like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, narrative therapy, and Internal Family Systems therapy. His goal is to empower his clients to see their current situation as part of a larger narrative, and to understand that they’re doing the best they can to cope with their emotions.
Matt values inclusion in his practice and welcomes diversity in all its beautiful forms. His philosophy recognizes that all people come from different upbringings and each person has a different world view, meaning different crises break them down in different ways.
But, what’s the same is that a crisis can always be a catalyst for transformational growth. Matt's lived through these cycles personally and he's guided clients just like you through them professionally.
