Professional statement

Matt McKevitt is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who provides teletherapy in New Jersey and New York. He works with individuals across the lifespan, with a focus on adults and young adults who are seeking to create change in their lives. Many of his clients bring in emotional pain due to overwhelming symptoms of anxiety and depression, inability to manage stress or perfectionism in their work or personal lives, or they are struggling to cope with a life transition such as a new career or breakup.

Matt McKevitt prominently uses Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as his treatment approach. Matt helps his clients develop coping skills to manage emotions that are interfering with their day-to-day lives. Simultaneously, he helps his clients explore their underlying thoughts to help create an understanding of why these emotions exist and how they can be overcome.

Matt McKevitt's practice is exclusively teletherapy for people in New Jersey and New York. Matt chose a virtual practice because it allows for flexibility in scheduling to accommodate his client's busy lives. He believes that the accessibility of teletherapy is helpful in eliminating barriers that prevent people from receiving the help they desire.

In session Matt McKevitt makes it a priority to provide a safe and validating environment. He considers the therapeutic process as more of a conversation between therapist and client, rather than a hierarchy. He and his clients share an equal partnership in working towards and achieving treatment goals.

Message to clients

It's never easy to find time for yourself. You have a busy schedule, deadlines to meet, you have responsibilities and errands to run. Sometimes you can convince yourself that you don't even need help, although deep down you desire change.

Are you feeling more anxious then usual, struggling with depression, or maybe having difficulty managing a change in your life? I created my virtual practice to help you, the overachiever in need that struggles to schedule time for themselves. Teletherapy allows flexibility and accessibility making it easier for you to set aside one hour a week dedicated to your mental health. During that hour I will provide a safe and validating therapeutic environment and we will work together as a team to help you reach your desired goals.
