Professional statement

Mayra Richards is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Atlanta, GA. Mayra is passionate about helping individuals and couples become closer to themselves, their loved ones, and God. She works with people who feel disconnected from their authentic selves, confused about life direction, or want to learn more about their minds.

Mayra approaches therapy using evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). With CBT, Mayra helps clients break free from harmful thought patterns and connect their emotions to their actions. To support clients who previously experienced difficult situations or traumatic events, Mayra practices EMDR to help them move past those adverse experiences. Mayra helps individuals process their past experiences in childhood and heal childhood wounds to better understand and thrive as adults.

Mayra earned her Master’s degree from Richmont Graduate University. Her goal is to empower clients to discover their life purpose and take steps towards that life purpose. With a background in Christianity, Mayra often brings God into the therapy space for those clients who would like to discuss religiosity.

Message to clients

Whatever leads you to find a counselor, first and foremost I want to say - you are so brave. I remember the first time I looked for a counselor and how overwhelmed I felt. Please know that you will find the best fit for you. The counseling relationship takes time to build but once it is built, it is transformative.

I love being a counselor. I absolutely love my clients; each of them teaches me so much through their highs and lows. I love sitting with clients in their pain and it is a joy to celebrate their wins. My therapeutic approaches are Psychodynamic, Attachment, CBT,  and EFT. What does this mean? I focus on childhood experiences that led to negative core beliefs which are affecting your connection with God, with yourself, and with others around you. I focus on both thoughts and emotions because both matter equally. I do all of this from a Christian perspective. I love guiding clients to a deeper relationship with Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit.

No matter who you are, know that you are worth investing in, celebrating, and loving who you are. My hope for every client is to believe again that we were not made to survive this world; we were meant to thrive in it.

Attachment issues - Development of effective relational and communication skills; insight into family attachment patterns;fostering healthy family relationships.

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
