Licensed Master Social Worker, LMSW Practice: Resilience LabMaysa is a licensed social worker (LMSW) in both Connecticut and Alabama. She has extensive training and experience working with individuals who experience substance use disorders, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, as well as other crises they may experience. She believes in a holistic approach in addressing lifestyle changes, tackling dysfunctional thinking, exploring healthier coping skills, and addressing sources of distress by drawing from social justice values, understanding each person's unique situation and identifying possible solutions. Maysa is also willing to "just listen" if that is what you need the most! She believes that who we are and how we are perceived by society can greatly impact our lives. Her passions lie in providing equitable and comprehensive therapeutic services to individuals who have been marginalized by society. Therapy should be a safe space to explore who you are and thrive, and she aims to create a safe space for this.
Maysa works best with adults, although she is open to working with teenagers ages 14 and up. Her ideal client is someone who is open to learning more about themselves and how their environment impacts them. She has extensive background in working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, substance use disorder, and eating disorders. You are the expert in your life, she is here to empower and assist you in the process of thriving into your best self.
Addiction - Coping with emotional discomfort and suffering; reducing or abstaining from unwanted behaviors such as unhealthy gambling or shopping
Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
College & graduate student mental health - Specialized strategies for common issues of young adulthood, including school and career stressors, support around healthy relationships, existential concerns, drug or alcohol issues, eating disorders, and anxiety and/or depression.
Cultural adjustment - Acclimating to a new environment; managing stress and coping with feelings of loss and separation from familiar people and places
Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life
Life transitions - Coping with difficult or impactful life changes, such as moving to a new area, relationship transitions, child rearing, or career changes; learning self-care to better manage resulting stress
