Professional statement

Megan Mountcastle is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She is welcoming new clients for virtual sessions for adults in MA & CT.

She works with clients who are having a tough time coping with a loss, those struggling with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and those feeling intense anxiety about health or are coping with the aftermath of a health scare. She also offers therapy for professionals in the medical field who are facing high pressure, and are experiencing burnout and anxiety. Sometimes, for Megan's clients, anxiety, IBS and loss are all present and overlapping.

She draws especially from mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approaches in therapy. Megan offers skills training to empower her IBS clients to cope with burnout and learn new ways to navigate their symptoms, understand the connection between their brain and gut, and cope with mental despair about experiencing chronic discomfort. Megan offers an intensive 3 month therapy program for clients looking for more targeted support for IBS.

Megan received her Master’s Degree in social work from Simmons College. She has provided group and individual psychotherapy in community mental health centers and at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She has also supported families through grief and loss with loved ones in hospice care. In 2005 she trained as a health coach in New York City. Her experiences working in a medical setting give her insight to support her clients who are doctors and medical professionals that work in high pressure environments.

Message to clients

I know it isn't easy to start down the path of therapy. Just beginning the search for a therapist can be a big step.

Here are some of the examples of people I help:

-You’re a medical doctor or health professional who is struggling with anxiety and burnout and feel alone with your worries and stress. You spend so much time focusing on the pressures of your job that there is no room for you.

-You’re burned out from dealing with GI symptoms and IBS. You want more focused guidance on how to better cope, but don’t know where to find it.

-You’ve had a health scare and think about it constantly. You find that the worry and anxiety about your health is spreading to other areas of your life.

-You’ve experienced a sudden loss and are having a tough time coping. You don’t feel like yourself, you’re tearful and anxious when you’re alone, but going through the motions around others.

-You find that you are worried much of the time now and don't remember when you felt a sense of peace or calm

Our sessions will be part slowing down to allow you to have space to calm & soothe your anxieties, and part skills based to learn new ways to cope that you couldn't have gotten to on your own. I offer gentle, validating sessions that will leave you more connected to yourself and more empowered to work through the painful and pressured experiences you've been going through.
