Professional statement

Dr. Melanie Soilleux is a Psychologist in Washington DC and Virginia. Clients who work with Dr. Soilleux are adults and college-aged individuals who come to therapy for a variety of reasons. Some are experiencing relationship issues or identity concerns, struggling with life transitions, imposter syndrome or burnout, feeling overwhelmed or stuck, or struggling with anxiety or depression. Individuals of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and ethnic and cultural backgrounds are welcome.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy posits that our past experiences impact our current experiences and relationship with yourself and others. In sessions, clients work with Dr. Soilleux to increase insight into these connections and into patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. These insights can allow clients to make more well-informed decisions to improve their lives and reach their goals. In addition to increased self-awareness, Dr. Soilleux takes an active role in assisting clients to develop coping skills based on their strengths and to establish new behaviors that may improve their quality of life.

Dr. Soilleux received her Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The George Washington University. As a part of her doctoral training, she completed a pre-doctoral internship at Drexel University’s Counseling Center. After receiving her doctorate, Dr. Soilleux continued her training by completing a postdoctoral fellowship at The George Washington University Counseling and Psychological Services. She has experience working with a diverse clientele across a variety of settings, including college counseling, community mental health, and group and private practices.

Dr. Soilleux's office is located in Dupont Circle in Washington DC. It is easily accessible by DC Metro. There is also street parking available. Currently all appointments are conducted through a HIPAA complaint video platform (and you are not required to create an account for additional privacy).

Message to clients

Therapy can be helpful when emotions are increasingly distressing, relationships are disappointing, life circumstances are unsatisfying, stressors are overwhelming, or some aspect of you life is not working. Together, we will work to increase self-awareness, deepen your understanding of your relationships, minimize your distress, and establish meaningful and lasting change.

Clients and colleagues describe my style as collaborative, warm, compassionate, empowering, and active. My role is to create an open and trusting environment where you can freely explore your thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. Therapy is most successful when there is a supportive relationship where you can also be challenged in order to develop increased self-awareness. Through mutual respect and trust, we will create a safe atmosphere for the valuable work of self-exploration, growth, and change to occur.
