Professional statement

Melissa is a professional counselor based in Denver and is licensed in both CO and Washington, D.C. As a therapist, she aims to be an ally and a trusted source of support to sit with her clients through their pain and uncertainty. Melissa's expertise lies in working with those experiencing trauma and grief, patients and healthcare professionals in a hospital setting, members of the U.S. foreign service, and humanitarians who live and work in high-stress environments. She also has significant experience working with those experiencing eco-anxiety and distress related to our changing climate. Further, as a mom and spouse of a veteran, Melissa understands parenting and military-specific challenges.

Melissa's approach is trauma-informed and person-centered, which means she meets her clients wherever they are on their mental health journey, and she recognizes the important impact that culture, relationships, and experiences can have on mental health. She often uses cognitive-behavioral approaches in therapy to help make connections between thoughts and behaviors, and she draws connections between the mind and body through somatic techniques while also introducing practical tools to help people notice their progress.

Melissa's counseling orientation is one of calm, compassionate care. She listens to her clients with empathy and understanding and without judgement while also identifying patterns and gently challenging thinking when helpful.

Melissa offers short-term, solutions-focused counseling as well as long-term support. As a telehealth provider, she offers flexibility through remote sessions.

Message to clients

Finding the right counselor takes time and energy and can understandably come with questions and uncertainty. Some people may know exactly what they want to get out of therapy while others are unsure where to even begin. Wherever you are on your mental health journey, I hope to join you and offer professional support and care. Whether you're looking for someone to support you through a difficult time, relationship, or situation, or you want to dig deeper into your life and search for meaning, connection, or understanding, I invite you to reach out to see if I'd be a good fit for you. I look forward to holding space for you in our work together, sitting beside you through your hardest moments, and celebrating your progress along the way.
