Professional statement

Dr. Merav Gur is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with an office in Midtown Manhattan and online practices in NY, NJ, and FL. Her practice focuses on supporting adults with anxiety, including panic disorder and social anxiety. She also works with individuals who are trying to sort out their life path, build healthier relationships, and develop an authentic self. Additionally, she sees individuals with a history of trauma and those navigating depression, relationships, and perinatal challenges. She works closely with her clients on developing healthier coping mechanisms, building self-confidence, and living a fuller, more meaningful life.

Dr. Gur utilizes psychodynamic psychotherapy as well as a skills-based approach combining Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Having been trained in various modalities, she tailors her clinical approach to each client’s needs and goals.

Dr. Gur has published both in scientific journals and at the HuffPost, and contributed to published pieces about mental health at the Economist, BuzzFeed, Mic, and Self Magazine. She strives to increase awareness to mental health issues, while providing high-quality, personalized care.

Dr. Gur strives to create a warm, non-judgmental therapeutic environment for clients to comfortably explore their emotions, self-reflect, and gain greater self-awareness to make meaningful behavioral changes. Her practice is located steps from Grand Central and the 5th Avenue Bryant Park subway station.

Message to clients

I believe that successful treatment is based on a warm, supportive, collaborative, and non-judgmental therapeutic environment, in which the client can comfortably explore issues and experience a good connection with the therapist. Since I am trained in different modalities (including insight oriented/psychodynamic psychotherapy, CBT, ACT, DBT, IPT), I am able to tailor my clinical approach to each individual’s needs and work integratively.

My approach is collaborative and my goal is to help my clients learn new and more effective coping skills, make meaningful life changes, heal from past trauma, establish healthier relationships, and work towards achieving the life that they envision for themselves. Gains made by individuals in psychotherapy are often maintained for many years.

In my personal clinical experience, I have found that psychotherapy facilitates personal growth and healing. Clients gain better self knowledge and self confidence, communicate and assert themselves more effectively, become more aware of their needs and learn to replace old and Ineffective ways of coping by healthier ones. Clients make better choices for themselves and become less stuck and paralyzed. Some will make career changes; others will find more suitable partners, and many learn to live lives that are more meaningful, satisfying, and more consistent with their core values.

Psychotherapy can be either short-term or long–term. Some individuals want to focus on a specific issue or target specific symptoms and may need coaching through that specific issue. Others may want to work through more complex life issues in order to attain a better understanding of themselves or to achieve their
desired goals.
