Professional statement

Mike is not going to bullshit you, proper therapy is hard work.

The work Mike and you will do together will be intense. Expectations will be set from session one about what you want to accomplish through treatment. Mike will hold you accountable, but in a empathetic and caring way. Don't mistake the tone here as Mike being an asshole. Mike has been described by his patients as "Invested, when I speak to him during sessions I can see how engaged and active he is to help me"

Mike's patients have also described him as "Blunt, but compassionate. You can tell he cares and that allows him to challenge and push me to be a better version of myself"

Mike understands that his approach isn't for everyone, but if you are looking for an engaged therapist who will actively encourage you to tackle your problems while providing invaluable support along every step of the journey, he might very well be the right therapist for you.

Mike Amory is an LMSW currently working under supervision as he works toward his LCSW license. He has over two years of clinical experience working with a variety of clients from different gender, racial, age and other demographic backgrounds. Most of his clients tend to be in their early 20s to mid 30s.

Mike has been published in a number of outlets writing about mental health issues, including Polygon, Insider and Simple Practice.

Message to clients

I try to remind myself everyday what a privilege it is that, when I go to work, I have the opportunity to fundamentally change a person's life for the better. Through my work, I have had the honor of hearing patients discuss how our work together has allowed them to improve their lives in tangible ways. Finding healthy romantic relationships, creating meaning in their lives, connecting them more with their own internal emotional world. While I get immense joy from seeing how my work impacts my patients individually, seeing how our sessions lead to positive impacts on the people around them is what makes this career my life's work.

Self-improvement that doesn't result in you bettering those around you is bullshit.

That is the impact I aim to have with all my patients, it is one I hope to foster with you. I believe you are capable of making major changes in your life. To address the issues that are holding you back. Lets do it together.

I take my work seriously and do not take lightly the financial and time commitment that comes with regularly therapy. We will work hard, but in a way that respects you and always leads with empathy and kindness. If this approach sounds like exactly what you need, if you are tired of seeing therapists that just passively sit back during sessions and seemingly only capable of offering "That sounds hard", then I encourage you to reach out for a consult call and get started.
