Professional statement

Michael Braverman is a Cognitive Behavior Therapist, who works with clients who are experiencing a variety of difficulties. Some of his specialties include anxiety, depression, ADHD, life transitions, relationship difficulties, work-related stress / work-life balance and emotional dysregulation. Not every problem he works with is listed here – please reach out for a free 15-minute consultation call to determine if he and you would be a good fit. Michael is experienced working with people from a variety of different cultural backgrounds, gender identities and sexual orientations.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is an “evidence-based” treatment. That means it has been proven by clinical research to be effective in helping people with a variety of difficulties. Michae receives ongoing training and supervision in CBT at the Beck Institute, birthplace of CBT. He attends workshops and has biweekly supervision sessions with Beck Institute faculty member Robert Hindman, PhD. Dr. Hindman is an expert on integrating mindfulness with CBT. Michael has been accepted into the Beck Institute’s certification program, and will become a certified CBT therapist later this year.

Michael Braverman sees clients in-person at both his Manhattan office and his Hudson Valley office, (in Garrison, New York.) He is also available for Zoom sessions.

Message to clients

Do you want to see changes in how you feel, day-to-day, week-to-week? Are you looking to get better now, and not after years of poring through formative experiences? Do you want therapy that works? Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT,) with a mindfulness component, can help, by tackling the problems that you want to address each week, by providing structure and by providing opportunities for you to put what you learn into practice between our sessions.

I pride myself on my extensive and ongoing training in CBT My training is primarily through the Beck Institute, the birthplace of CBT. I receive clinical supervision from Dr. Robert Hindman, a senior faculty member at Beck. Dr. Hindman is an expert on integrating mindfulness with CBT, and this has become my specialty. These two approaches have been proven by clinical research to help with all types of difficulties, including anxiety disorders, life transitions, and just feeling "stuck." I have completed over 200 hours of training and supervision and am currently accepted into the Beck Institute certification program.

Many therapists claim to do CBT. Whether or not you work with me, I encourage you to interview prospective therapists – ask them about their ongoing training and supervision. Ask them if they assign homework, if they have clients face their fears and how their sessions are structured. Your mental health is important, and you deserve a therapist who is serious about treatment that works.
