Professional statement

Mike Morde is a licensed mental health counselor, nationally certified counselor, and addictions therapist. He provides sessions in-person and also via telehealth with clients across New York State.

Since 2011, Mike has worked in behavioral health, including group homes, a VA medical center, and in local outpatient mental health and chemical dependency clinics. Mike has won awards during his career, including the Star of Service from East House Corporation and the 2016 NYMHCA Graduate Student of the Year. He currently serves on several boards and committees for advocacy and mental health affairs on local and state levels, and is a co-founder of a new local affiliate group for the Association for Contextual and Behavioral Science. He has been in private practice since 2021, and regularly does presentations for professional and medical groups about Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Mike operates from a person-centered and trauma-informed background, combining his approach with mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This cutting-edge approach has demonstrated to be very effective with a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, personality disorders, depression, chronic pain management, psychotic disorders, and eating disorders. Visit his website more information and videos.

Message to clients

The slogan for my practice is "Less Talking, More Doing."

No one wants to be in therapy forever. My approach of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, or "ACT" for short, is based on ACTION. To improve your life and drive it towards a lifestyle that is more meaningful and in line with who you want to be, you need to put your shoulder behind our therapy together. My clients don't visit me to talk endlessly about old traumas and find magical solutions to their concerns with mental health and addictions. We work together using realistic exercises and techniques that are done both in session and out of session as well. Clients use mindfulness exercises, readings, podcasts, walking meditations, videos - you name it! As the expression goes, "I can teach you to play an instrument, but if you don't practice between lessons, you won't get very far."

Visit my website and contact me today to schedule a free 20-minute consultation. If I'm not a good match for you, I'll help you find someone that is.
