Professional statement

Miranda Young is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor located in San Fransisco, CA. Miranda specializes in working with the LGBTQ community, including LGBTQ adolescents who seek support as they navigate their identities. Many of Miranda’s clients have experienced trauma in their lives, whether that’s systemic trauma or trauma from their childhoods, including abuse or neglect. This trauma can manifest into challenging mental health, including anxiety, attachment issues, and self-doubt.

Miranda takes a feminist, queer lens to working with clients. She encourages clients to identify the societal barriers that have held them back from wellbeing, and to take a strengths-based perspective of their own resilience. She helps clients recognize harmful patterns, especially the patterns established during their childhood. She also uses a therapy modality called Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), which equips clients with the ability to recognize negative thought patterns that can lead to lower mood or unhealthy behavior, especially in the presence of a trauma history. Miranda also incorporates mindfulness and breathwork into her sessions, teaching clients how to be present with their minds and bodies.

Miranda earned a Master’s degree from the University of San Fransisco. She has over 10 years of experience working with clients in the mental health setting, and enjoys making all clients feel heard, understood, respected, and affirmed.
