Professional statement

Nancy Robinson-Berry, LCSW, is a psychotherapist in private practice in Georgetown, Texas, where she specializes in helping clients learn to navigate life transitions. These might include starting college, finding a career, managing work stress, relationship problems, family issues, parenthood, unexpected illness, grief and loss, or adjusting to retirement. Anxiety and depressed mood can accompany these transitions, and many of her clients start therapy with these issues as well.

Nancy teaches her clients new skills to manage stress using principles of mindfulness, allowing them to find more ease with all of their emotions and thoughts, and to use kindness and great compassion with themselves in their daily lives. She also helps her clients to become aware of what subtle errors they may be making in their thinking, which can lead to mood issues. They are then able to replace those inaccurate thoughts with more accurate ones to improve their mood and stress level. Nancy has advanced certification and training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy), a highly researched and evidence-based treatment modality to help clients reprocess painful life experiences to find new, positive core beliefs about themselves, and a higher level of functioning in their lives.

Nancy has been a practicing therapist for 27 years. Her substantial life experience helps her to connect with clients who bring many different types of issues to therapy. She has practiced mindfulness meditation for over 20 years. She has attended multi-day silent retreats to deepen her practice and knowledge of mindfulness, and how to live with more ease and joy. Nancy is on the teacher-training track for MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) with Brown University. She is currently taking new clients through the convenience of telehealth sessions. Office sessions will resume based on current public health conditions.

Message to clients

Sometimes we all can use a place to slow down and to explore how our lives are really going, and how we would like them to be. Therapy is a different experience than talking with a friend, although it often feels supportive and friendly. Therapists are trained in how to listen actively to their clients. In therapy, you may experience the feeling of being heard, seen, and validated in a deeper way. This helps you to become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and desires so that you can begin to build the life that you're envisioning.

I see my role as your therapist as your partner in this process. I will listen deeply, and ask questions to help you get more clarity in what you want and what is holding you back. I will give you information when it's helpful, and occasionally I'll make recommendations, while always encouraging you to trust yourself and to be kind and patient with yourself. You will learn concrete tools that will help you to reach your goals.

Personal growth can be both an exciting and a challenging experience. I love to share in that excitement with my clients, while supporting and guiding them through the challenges, as they learn to live with more ease and joy. If you'd like to have a brief, free phone call with me to discuss working together, just send me an email. What would you like to be different in your life?
