Naomi Altman is a licensed mental health counselor in Somerville, MA. She works with adults of all ages with challenges around trauma, identity, life transitions, anxiety and depression. She is particularly passionate about serving the LGBTQIA+ community, people who practice or are interested in ethical non-monogamy, people who enjoy creative hobbies, and people in helping professions. She has advanced training in working with complex trauma.
Her approach is relational and collaborative. She helps people connect mind, body, and spirit through a mix of internal family systems and somatic work based in sensorimotor psychotherapy. She is level 2 trained in both modalities. Her work is also informed by a graduate education in intermodal expressive arts therapies and postgraduate studies in existential psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Naomi's style is inviting, engaging, and open minded. In session, Naomi offers a collaborative, conversational approach. When needed, she will also lead meditations, teach grounding techniques such as breathing exercises, and facilitate internal family systems parts work. This approach supports clients to accept themselves, access their emotions, and advocate for their needs in personal and professional relationships.
Naomi received her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Expressive Arts Therapy from Lesley University. She worked in community mental health in day treatment and outpatient settings at the North Suffolk Mental Health Association and Riverside Community Care. Outside of private practice, She enjoy a wide range of creative pursuits including jewelry making and metalsmithing, dance, and interior design. She is currently offering remote therapy sessions only.
