Professional statement

Dr. Natasha Cook has worked with clients struggling to manage anxiety, depression, stress, and relationships for the duration of her career. She's worked with a range of ages elementary aged children to senior citizens as well as individual, couples, and groups over the course of career. She's worked as a psychologist for nearly 20 years and recently received a certification as a professional coach. The addition of the coaching training has increased her abilities to help clients identify the source(s) of these challenges, assess the right techniques to best address the symptoms, create achievable goals, and determine the skills that will help maintain those positive changes. Her clients are often motivated to make positive improvement across multiple areas of their lives, as common themes often run across different areas of our lives. Dr. Cook also discusses being intentional in how to approach situations, allowing her clients an increased ability to consistently show up as the best version of themselves.

She typically uses evidenced based approaches such as CBT, DBT, and MI to work with a variety of mental health diagnoses in an effective way. These approaches encourage the use of techniques to assist with self soothing through effective coping skills outside of the therapy sessions which increases clients' feeling of confidence through enhanced competence. Dr. Cook approaches working with clients from the stance that they are the experts on themselves and she's a guide to help her clients become the best version of themselves. Using the strength of this working relationship, she's been able to introduce and explain psychological techniques, skills, and resources that have created significant positive impacts and led to meaningful changes within her clients' lives.

Message to clients

I've learned from my clients that most individuals are doing the best they can with the tools, techniques, and information/awareness that they have. And, if they knew how to do something different or do something better, most would. Every client is unique with their past experiences and relationships providing the filters through which they see and interact with the world. It can be difficult to admit to ourselves and to another person - out loud - that we are lacking in some skill, understanding, or ability. as a result, I meet clients where they are, using what they know and providing new tools to promote enhanced personal efficacy/self-esteem, improved mental health, and greater clarity in relationships.

I approach therapy with clients as working together to identify the changes to make with the intentions to promote enhanced awareness, new insights, and different perspectives. Often this means re-examining what worked in the past as well as promoting new tools, techniques, and understanding to increase the chances of being effective in making and maintaining change. My goal is to help my clients identify and become the best version of themselves by using a variety of psychological techniques grounded primarily in Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT) in a safe and welcoming therapeutic environment.
