Professional statement

Nicole Smith-Perez is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor practicing in New York and Virginia who welcomes female clients between the ages of 18 and 55 to her private practice.

Nicole's practice focuses on women's mental health and emotional well being. Many women who visit Nicole consider themselves to be high achieving and successful but struggle with prioritizing themselves, communicating their needs, and creating balance in their lives. Her clients also want to explore how their achievements impact how people see them and make it difficult for them to ask for support and admit they're overwhelmed. Typical issues that Nicole works with her clients on are anxiety, stress management, relationship issues, and maternal mental health. Nicole's approach is rooted in a strengths based and solution focused approach that highlights learning and utilizing tools to aid in feeling more grounded.

In addition to her work with individuals, Nicole works with couples adjusting to changes and different phases in their relationship such as moving in together, navigating trust issues, or becoming parents. Nicole also offers clinical supervision and consultation to residents in counseling as well as therapists interested in taking the leap to private practice.

Nicole is committed to providing a safe, affirming space for women of color. For every client, Nicole's practice is informed by race and identity, multiculturism, relationships, and family dynamics. She looks forward to partnering with you.

Message to clients

You've achieved a lot in life but still feel unseen for who you truly are or aspire to be. Change can be intimidating but it's scarier to keep doing the same things you know aren't working. I strongly believe that every woman has the potential to thrive but may be lacking the knowledge and tools to help them get there. I help clients increase their self awareness, identify self-sabotaging behaviors, and be open to challenging themselves in new ways. Being uncomfortable is usually the first sign that you're doing something different. I'm here to help you feel empowered and supported in a way that allows that discomfort to open the door to what you've been seeking.
