Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, AMFTOlivia Russak is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist working in Los Angeles. She completed her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Southern California in 2021. Olivia is working under the supervision of licensed psychologist Dr. Catherine Barrett (PSY28102).
Olivia works with teens, adults (18-65+), romantic partners, and families. She utilizes trauma- and attachment-focused perspectives, while working from an anti-racist framework. Olivia is queer- and non-monogamy-affirming.
During her undergraduate years at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Olivia worked in a research lab investigating early interventions for youth at ultra-high risk for psychosis. After graduating cum laude in Psychology in 2015, she continued working in research in a large scale depression study at UCLA for four years. During that time, Olivia completed clinical and cognitive assessments, as well as getting trained in suicide risk assessment.
As a graduate student, Olivia worked with high school students at Counseling Partners of Los Angeles, as well as seeing adults at Pelican Cove Counseling Center. After completing her graduate level work in 2021, Olivia worked in community mental health intensive services for 1 year at The Guidance Center. During that time, Olivia treated children, teens, and adults experiencing high emotion dysregulation, chronic suicidality and self-harm, and acute and complex trauma, among other things. Olivia now focuses on trauma, attachment, and narcissistic abuse recovery in her private practice, as well as welcoming polyamorous and non-monogamous individuals, partners, and families.
Olivia is available for in-person and remote sessions (for clients based in CA). Olivia holds in-office sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays currently, and may open availability for Thursdays depending on demand.
Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
Attachment issues - Development of effective relational and communication skills; insight into family attachment patterns;fostering healthy family relationships.
Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life
LGBTQIA, gender, & sexuality topics - Exploring topics of sexuality, gender, and identity; coping with discrimination and oppression; navigating relationship, family, and cultural challenges
Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse
Mood disorders - Clinical depression, persistent depression, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders that cause disturbances in the client's mood, causing mood swings, restless sleep, and/or elevated mood
