Professional statement

Paige Geraghty is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Portland, ME and practicing virtually in ME, NJ and NY. Paige works primarily with adults and has extensive experience with OCD as well as general anxiety and trauma. Paige aims to provide a supportive partnership to her clients so they may work to address unhelpful patterns and meet their highest potentials.

Paige practices within a handful of evidence-based therapies, most notably Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). In CBT, clients learn about the link between their thoughts, feelings, and actions. Paige teaches clients how to identify cognitive distortions that lead to feelings of shame, frustration, distrust, or loneliness. Clients begin to address their tendencies to self-criticize, which can help decrease the amount of pressure they feel to get things “right.” Paige also encourages clients to consider their motivations, especially the motivation they have when they’re about to make a major change in their lives. She does this with empathy, warmth, and a strengths-based framework so each client learns their own innate strengths and what they bring to the table. Exposure and Response Prevention aims to break the cycle of OCD through addressing obsessions and compulsions head on.

Paige earned a Master’s degree from the Columbia School of Social Work and has nearly ten years of experience working with clients. She understands that therapy and introspection aren’t easy, so she provides clients with the support they need as they begin to look into their inner worlds. Paige is warm and empathetic and would love to hear from you today!

Message to clients

Welcome to the process of searching for a therapist. This can be challenging and scary as we consider opening up to someone new, surrounding some of our most intimate experiences. I am a firm believer that finding a therapist who is a strong fit can take a few tries, and would be happy to chat to see if we may be a fit for one another.

I practice first from a nonjudgemental stance. I consider myself a partner on your therapeutic journey, and am always honored to be in this role. I am warm yet direct and use a mixture of evidence based and relational components to learn your goals and help you identify both helpful and unhelpful patterns that are impacting your ability to reach those goals.

I have extensive experience working with a wide array of clients; from children and adolescents who have experienced trauma, to adults with serious mental illness. I have found my niche within the OCD world however find that my style fits for more traditional talk therapy surrounding life transition, new parenthood, family relational challenges anxiety presentations and general mental health needs as well.

Taking the first step to speak to someone is one to be proud of, please don't hesitate to reach out to schedule a call to see if we may be a match!
