Professional statement

Pat Stankovitch is a Licensed Psychologist who provides therapy and psychological testing services to adults across the lifespan from emerging adulthood (ages 18-25) through seniors. Many of Pat’s clients, despite being successful in school or career, find that one or more aspects of their life is currently challenging. This might be due to a recent life transition – for example, job loss or increased stress on the job, a relationship breakup, or the death of someone significant in their life. Life transitions can cause anxiety, sadness, and self-doubts even in those who typically see themselves navigating their lives well. Other clients have experienced a traumatic event-recently or in the past. It might be a car accident, hurricane, war, sexual assault, physical/emotional abuse (or any other highly stressful event). Post-trauma symptoms can interfere with relationships, work life, social life, or simply getting through each day.

Pat’s therapeutic work with anxiety and stress is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and related therapies (such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy) that are evidence-based and focused on helping clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Pat provides clients with practical strategies that can help them feel better while they are taking steps toward reaching goals for change that the client constructs and works on during the therapy. Specific therapies used by Pat for trauma are Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure Therapy, which are both evidence-based treatments. When working with a client presenting with grief over a death, Pat assesses for the type of death that has occurred and selectively uses either a trauma-informed or an attachment-informed therapy approach. In addition to psychotherapy, Pat provides diagnostic psychological testing, career assessment, mental health evaluations for immigration court, and pre-adoption evaluation.

Message to clients

I view each client as the expert on their own life and the changes they want to make. I am committed to maintaining an environment in which you can feel safe to be yourself and talk about whatever is on your mind without fear of judgment. Being allowed to hear a client's story and share in their life journey is a privilege which I take very seriously. I value the individual differences that each client brings to our work together, including differing family backgrounds, races, ethnicities, religions, abilities, sexual orientations, and gender identities. If you team up with me, I will join with you in affirming your strengths and goals, and identifying changes that may be needed to accomplish your goals -- while providing encouragement and support as you continue on your journey to live the best version of your life.
