LICDC, Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency CounselorPaul Lubben is a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC) located in Berea, OH. Paul specializes in working with individuals and families who suffer from the impacts of drug and alcohol addictions. He has extensive experience in addiction counseling and administration and is trained as a professional coach.
Many of Paul’s clients find themselves reliant on substances or find that they are experiencing negative consequences as a result of drinking or drug use, which often turns into conflict at work or in relationships. Through specialized approaches unique to each individual, Paul assists clients to find the motivation and skills needed to make positive changes and process what it means to become self-aware and make healthy choices. He listens empathetically to his clients and helps them set attainable goals. Clients explore different areas of their lives in therapy, discussing what is working and what isn’t working. Paul then coaches clients to reach their mental health goals, which often includes stopping their addictive behaviors. Clients receive support and suggestions for sobriety or lifestyle changes. Paul also uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with clients, which teaches clients how to become aware of unhealthy thought patterns. Relapse prevention information is utilized when needed.
Paul has worked in various settings within the field of addictions, including a halfway house, hospital detox and in-patient treatment, and outpatient treatment. Paul served as President of the Ohio Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (OAADAC) and as President of the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC), where he testified in the U.S. Senate, in support of treatment for addictions.
