Professional statement

Peter Hill is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Marriage and Family Therapist who works with young adults, adults, couples, and families. Often, Peter’s clients arrive at therapy in moments of transition, whether they’re facing changes in family structure, the death of a loved one, or aging-related change. These changes can impact a person’s mental health and their closest relationships, with the therapist stepping in to help them make sense of what’s happening internally for them and encourage appropriate coping strategies.

Peter’s approach to therapy draws from a wide range of modalities, particularly the modalities that were developed for couples and families. Clients learn more about mental health and how their mindset developed, reflecting back on their past experiences such as growing up. Peter creates an empathetic space where clients can connect the dots between their thoughts and feelings, and learn how to improve their relationships. He enjoys working with clients who are motivated to grow their wellbeing and willing to keep an open mind about their lives.

Peter earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work with additional training in Family Therapy including Structal Family Therapy, couples therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy.

Message to clients

Though there are many different ways of looking at therapy, my basic premise is that the relationship underlies everything. I work to cultivate strong, comfortable relationships with my clients, and although we zero in on the client’s specific concerns and goals, I find that wider conversations on a variety of topics can also prove very valuable. My clients tell me that they appreciate my calm, relaxed manner and value the insights we achieve in our work together
