Dr. Peter Lemons is a Clinical Psychologist located in Austin, TX. Dr. Lemons helps clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, ADHD, and PTSD. Many of his clients have a difficult time engaging with self-compassion, are overly perfectionistic, or find it difficult to trust themselves or to make important decisions. Such patterns sometimes develop in response to past trauma, a lack of support from key adults growing up, or may begin seemingly out-of-the-blue or in response to current stressful life events. The distress that results from such experiences may benefit from treatment, and Dr. Lemons is happy to help.
Dr. Lemons combines elements of multiple evidence-based therapies when working with clients. He actively collaborates with clients to develop treatment strategies that are comfortable and effective. He brings together Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand what’s in their control and what’s out of their control, which can help with anxiety and mood management. He also employs existential and motivational frameworks to help clients tap into their values and better understand why they want change, and how to anticipate and overcome roadblocks to make change happen.
Dr. Lemons earned his PhD from Binghamton University after concluding a brief, first career in the arts. He has retained an interest in the creative process and enjoys working with artists, who occasionally benefit from assistance in clearing a creative block or deepening connections with their media through therapy. Additionally, Dr. Lemons spent approximately 5 years working with Veterans, and specializes in working with former service members in order to ease the transition back into civilian life, and to process experiences in military life which can make it hard to build trust and feel safe back at home.
