Professional statement

Dr. Rachel Rengifo is a licensed clinical psychologist in Millburn, NJ. She specializes in helping women with the self-conscious emotions: anxiety, guilt, and shame. This triangle of emotions can be difficult for women to work through. Often these emotions can create painful stuck points that may result in ambivalence, avoidance, negative self talk, and increased feelings of poor self esteem and self worth.

Dr. Rengifo has a passion for helping women reach their fullest potential and find peace with complicated life experiences. She wants her clients to gain the tools they need to live their best lives. This may involve changing core beliefs so as to free themselves from both painful emotions and experiences from the past that have held them back.

She is passionate about helping mothers throughout different stages of their parenting journey. She understands the unique challenges that mothers of adolescents and young adults experience. This time of parenting is complicated as the dynamic between parent and child is shifting. Parents are learning to both let go and provide active support from a distance. Finding the balance between empowering young adult children and enabling them is extremely difficult. Dr. Rengifo understand this and wants to help mothers find this balance in a way that honors the family values and dynamics of her clients.

Dr. Rengifo is committed to providing culturally informed treatment to mothers who are at any stage of their parenting journey. She has advanced training in Postpartum and Perinatal mood disorders and served on the NJ Chapter of Postpartum International from 2018-2020.

Message to clients

Taking care of our emotional health is hard work. Therapy is a powerful experience. It involves forming a deep and meaningful connection with someone who is there to help you understand why you feel what you feel and do what you do. Creating space for yourself helps you show up for all the other parts of your life and all the people in your world. We can only give to others, what we have within. Women are particularly good at pushing themselves to do more, be more, and give more. Therapy allows you to give back to yourself in a way that recharges your soul. I believe wholeheartedly in the healing process of therapy. When I work with clients, I meet you were you are at. My style is warm, non-judgmental, and down to earth. I want you to feel safe and I appreciate that it takes a lot of courage to reach out and begin this journey. I believe that in building a truly meaningful therapeutic relationship, it becomes safe to talk about experiences and struggles that are hard to share.
