Dr. Roberson is a clinical psychologist in McLean, VA, providing psychological therapy and diagnostic evaluations for individuals of all ages. She has extensive experience with neurodiversity (e.g., ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder) across the lifespan and is passionate about helping individuals and their family members 1) understand themselves and embrace their neurodiversity, 2) treat other psychological concerns like anxiety or depression which are highly common for neurodivergent individuals, and 3) target personal goals and build skills like emotion regulation, self-management and organization, and social skills.
Many patients that Dr. Roberson works with have struggled socially (meeting new people, developing meaningful friendships, dating) or professionally/academically (difficulty with following through on tasks, consistency, organization, identifying majors or career paths in line with passions). Some individuals have received a diagnosis of ADHD or Autism and others have wondered whether these diagnoses or broader spectrum of symptoms might help explain why they have felt stuck or disconnected throughout their lives. Dr. Roberson provides evaluations that answer these questions, works with individuals to understand results, and provides individualized recommendations to help patients work smarter/not harder in all areas of their lives.
Dr. Roberson has received exceptional graduate training at UNC Chapel Hill (#2 ranked PhD program in clinical psychology) and Columbia University before finishing her year-long clinical internship at Children's National Hospital and year-long postdoctoral fellowship in Autism at NYU Langone. Her research has been published in top journals. She employs evidence-based treatments (which are highly researched to promote best results) based on cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness/acceptance based interventions. Treatment plans are determined based on the individual's age and developmental level as well as their presenting goals/challenges. Parents and other loved ones often play a crucial role in therapy for children and young adolescents, while this varies depending on patient preference for older teens/adults.
