Professional statement

Raquel M Massaro is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Tampa, FL, who works with individuals across the lifespan, with a focus on grief and trauma. Many of her clients have found great success in their careers or academically but struggle to feel connected in their relationships or at peace in their daily lives. Raquel is particularly sensitive to clients facing moments of transition, faces of life, addiction, and grief, when the delicate balance can seem to tremble, and symptoms of anxiety, depression, and self-doubt can emerge.

Raquel's approach is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based approach that focuses on helping clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected, so that they can begin to make targeted change. Raquel works to help clients understand their physical response to external stressors and begin to problem-solve ways to introduce moments of calm, to choose to respond rather than react in the face of change. As a trauma-informed therapist, Raquel is sensitive to the influence of past experiences on present challenges and practices a holistic approach, which blends cognitive and body-based styles. Through the integration of mind-body, you will gain the skills to calm and regulate the nervous system first, so you can then balance emotions and reframe thoughts. In session, Raquel uses body awareness, breathwork, gestures, and grounding skills in combination with traditional talk therapy.

Raquel's style is engaging, and empathic. During sessions, you'll be guided into an atmosphere of safety where all your thoughts, feelings, and body sensations are welcomed to be expressed and released without judgement. As a seasoned telehealth provider, Raquel offers the convenience of remote sessions as well as in person to help make therapy a core component of your self-care calendar.

Message to clients

I look forward to helping you feel comfortable to share your experiences with me. I help others to heal by cultivating awareness of the mind-body connection without judgment, creating a space unique to each one of you; and to build the skills necessary to address the way in which trauma is held in our bodies. This is the first step to taking control of your life again. You are the designer of your healing!
