Professional statement

Raquel Perez is an LPCC in Lakewood, CO. She works with individuals and couples who are looking to strengthen their relationship bonds and find healthy intimacy. Many of Raquel’s clients come in when they feel stuck in a negative pattern or cycle that is not conducive to their goals. These patterns and cycles feel reactionary and are not intentional. Raquel uses her lived experience as a gay, bilingual, Mexican-American woman which has given her a passion for working with women, the LGBTQ community, and people of color, among other marginalized populations. She also has advanced training in the area of couples, trauma, and sex therapy.

Raquel is trained in emotionally focused therapy (EFT), which uses our innate tendencies to develop strong bonds through attachment. In the session, Raquel focuses on accessing the primary emotions behind our actions to recognize and reduce negative cycles that can disrupt and harm our relationships. This approach supports clients in bringing self-awareness and new insight to their lives that strengthen their relationships through stronger communication and tending to attachment needs.

Raquel’s style is person-centered with a trauma lens, this style aids her in seeing each individual and relationship through compassion and empathy. When a client first comes in, Raquel will build a strong therapeutic alliance and use collaboration with each person in session to develop goals and set forth a path to achieving their goals. Raquel is dedicated to providing a therapeutic alliance that is free of shame, fear, and judgment.

Raquel received her Master of Arts in Counseling through Palo Alto University. She gained experience at Denver Health and Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health where she worked with diverse and marginalized populations which enables her to reach individuals in their lived experiences and join them on their journey to a life of well-being and healthy intimacy.

Message to clients

Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me and my approach. I understand the feelings of vulnerability that often come up when searching for a service provider, I take pride in making a strong, trusting therapeutic alliance through compassion and empathy a top priority. I see the therapeutic space as one where we set down the defenses that once served to protect us, but no longer benefit us to find insight, encouragement, and growth. I would love the opportunity to join you on your journey to self-acceptance, well-being, and healthy intimacy.
