Professional statement

Rebecca Swagger is a licensed mental health counselor in the New England area working with individuals from adolescence through adulthood. Many of Rebecca’s clients address anxiety described as worry and rumination. Individuals also ask for help building awareness of their role and responsibility in family, work or intimate relationships; they find their voice and discover ways to get their needs met. Rebecca is particularly passionate about helping you heal so you can move through life transitions and make those big decisions! She frequently treats in the area of Anxiety, Anger Management, Substance Use (12-Step AA/ACA), Depression and Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorders.

Some treatments Rebecca uses are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Mindfulness-based Therapies, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She enjoys learning and teaching about the connection between our brain and bodies, especially the idea of “neuroplasticity:” We may have learned maladaptive behaviors and thoughts but we can also re-learn new more helpful and positive ones. Rebecca will introduce varied coping skills, time management strategies, along with breathing and meditation exercises. Clients report an increase in self-confidence taking steps to improve their employment, social life, and build trusting relationships.

Rebecca's style is sincere, non-judgmental and goal-oriented. She brings over ten years of experience working with varied populations in clinical research trials understanding addiction. To contribute to local advocacy efforts Rebecca participates in a coalition to prevent youth access to addictive substances. She also enjoys getting out in nature to practice mindfulness as self-care with trail running, yoga and live music.

Message to clients

I welcome you to therapy and hope you can learn more about you! I ensure safety, confidentiality and trust in my therapeutic relationships. At the start, clients are given time and space to express their experiences without interruption; I want to hear what is true for you.

As a client you are encouraged to be an active participant in therapy so that we keep momentum towards your goals. We will cover the bases together; I may ask what you believe your role in the problem is, what you have already attempted to solve, or maybe you just do not know where to start. That is alright, we will figure that out together!

Empowering you from the beginning allows us to focus on your strengths and then where you would like to heal or improve. You will set the pace. We will learn about what you have control over and what you no longer need to try to control! Together we build up your skills for getting back out to do the things you love.
