Message to clients

Coming to therapy can be anxiety-provoking, especially if it's your first time, and it's important to keep in mind that there's no right or wrong thing to say. The first session will be your chance to talk about what's on your mind, as well as to get to know me and ask any questions you might have about the way I work, or therapy in general. Over the course of the first few sessions I'll ask follow up questions to assess your symptoms as well as get a more holistic picture of your life. We'll identify the most important goals you'd like to work on, and I can talk to you a bit more about how I see therapy helping you and which modalities may be best. Throughout the course of therapy, which may be relatively brief or longer-term, we may examine automatic thoughts that may be influencing behaviors, develop healthier coping skills for distressing emotions, and boost motivation and commitment to change by clarifying your goals and values. We may also explore relationship patterns and work on communication, assertiveness, and barriers to intimacy. Common to all effective therapy is a non-judgmental environment and strong therapeutic alliance where we are working together to help alleviate your stress and develop insight and self-reflection. My hope is that therapy can be a part of your being able to access more joy, meaning, and satisfying relationships in your life.

Client testimonials

"Dr. Zisserson is a wonderful, kind person who is a good listener and gives the advice I need to hear when I need to hear it."
- Brown University student June 2015
"I had intense social anxiety, as well as more general anxiety about a broad range of issues (including school, upsetting personal events, etc.). Dr. Zisserson was great at helping me get out of my comfort zone and stop allowing social anxiety to hold me back from experiencing college life. She was also very helpful during times of personal tragedy."
