Professional statement

Dr. Reed Maxwell, Ph.D., ABPP (Clinical) is a board-certified clinical psychologist offering an array of online psychological services including psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, assessment (e.g., court-ordered psychodiagnostic testing), and consultation/coaching to individuals and businesses throughout the five boroughs. His love for NYC and its vibrant communities and institutions drives him to specially target his skills to serve his favorite American city.

Dr. Maxwell completed his doctoral training at a “public Ivy” research university in upstate New York, and completed two years of postdoctoral training with the Personality Disorders Institute at Weill Cornell Medicine and the Center for Psychoanalytic Research and Training at Columbia University in the city. He specializes in helping diverse, highly motivated people flourish in all domains of life, including relationships, career/education, and self-actualization. He uses a combination of cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic evidence-based approaches to help folks make the changes they wish to make in life, as well as identify the lives they truly wish to lead.

Dr. Maxwell is also available to conduct court-ordered or other-related assessments remotely, including competency evaluations, cognitive/intellectual assessments, and comprehensive psychodiagnostic evaluations. Dr. Maxwell has conducted over 20 court-ordered evaluations throughout Missouri and Kansas since 2022 and remains an in-demand expert witness among public defenders throughout both states. Dr. Maxwell also supervises and educates graduate trainees in assessment and diagnosis as an adjunct associate professor with a newly-minted clinical psychology doctoral program in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area.

Concerning specialty assessments, Dr. Maxwell offers neurodivergence evaluations for adults (i.e., autism spectrum and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorders), as well as comprehensive assessments of personality and personality psychopathology. Dr. Maxwell received two years of highly specialized training in personality assessment at Weill Cornell Medicine as a postdoctoral associate, and he is able to parse complex personality patterns to help folks understand themselves and their relationships.

Message to clients

As your psychologist, my hope is for you to ask questions you never imagined you'd ask; to understand your life in ways that open new doors to enriching changes and opportunities you never expected; to make every second count, instead of counting every second; and, to discover the most frictionless habits in all domains of living that will enable you to become the person you've always wanted to be.

If you are an adult seeking assessment for neurodivergence (i.e., autism spectrum and/or attention-deficit/hyperactivity), I can offer comprehensive evaluations at competitive rates via my training practicum at Maxwell Psychological Services, L.L.C. For all assessments, you will receive jargon-free, person-centered feedback about your results framed therapeutically in the context of your testing objectives.

If you are an attorney seeking an expert witness to evaluate a client for psychodiagnostic or other purposes, I produce comprehensive, cohesive, and fluid assessments tailored to the referral question, with appropriate references to peer-reviewed literature supporting my conclusions. I also offer competitive hourly rates and quick turnaround for reports, and I am able to travel to the city for purposes of testifying. Specific areas of expertise include personality disorders (e.g., Narcissistic Personality Disorder; Antisocial Personality Disorder; Borderline Personality Disorder), dissociative disorders, and trauma and stressor-related disorders.

I love my vocation, and most importantly, my work is you.
