Professional statement

Renee Giordano is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in New York. Renee specializes in working with those who have past experiences with trauma. Many of Renee’s clients experienced complex childhood trauma, which includes childhood emotional neglect. Because of these experiences, they fall into people pleasing patterns that leave them feeling emotionally exhausted. They find it challenging to identify their own emotions, yet face feelings of anxiety, chronic self-doubt and lack of confidence. Renee also works with those who have been diagnosed with ADHD or those who suspect they could be.

Renee practices from a trauma-based and relational lens. Some modalities she works with include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based therapy modalities, parts work, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to offer clients a holistic approach to healing. Clients learn how to manage their emotional reactions and how to look internally at their feelings. Her goal is to help all clients connect on a deeper level with themselves and to grow their self-awareness so they can unlearn unhealthy patterns. Clients who work with Renee learn how to feel confident in themselves and how to embrace feelings of joy in their lives.

Renee earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from Adelphi University. She has nearly 20 years of experience helping individuals and couples, and has taught graduate-level students. She has a straightforward, yet warm style when supporting clients and strives to give them the skills they need to heal trauma and expand their capacity for happiness and growth.

Message to clients

When it feels like something's "off" , you're not sure what, except you feel unfulfilled and you're not having satisfying relationships. Feeling seen, heard and understood is a challenge and it can be hard to sort out complex and nuanced feelings about yourself. This can feel very lonely and undermines your self-esteem and self-trust, causing anxiety, overthinking, and worry you're never going to know what's it's like to be yourself in relationships.

The most important thing to know is you're not broken and there's nothing wrong with you. Chances are, no one ever taught you how to deal with challenging feelings. Maybe in childhood, the adults didn't talk about feelings, or if they did, it was to judge, ignore or otherwise invalidate them, whether they meant to or not. As an adult, that can lead to feelings of disconnection, constant fear of making mistakes, avoidance or overwhelm. Continuing to convince yourself that your feelings aren't as important as the comfort of others puts you on the fast track to burnout. There's another choice. We can work on this - together.

Signing up for this deep work can be daunting and can remind you of all the times you've had to take care of challenging things alone. When you work with me, you don't have to do this by yourself. I'm here to guide, support and provide tools to help you on a path to a more connected, satisfying life.
