Professional statement

Robin Kulesza is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor providing in person therapy in IL, and online in IL, TX, SC, FL. Robin works with midlife women who have experienced childhood trauma, abusive relationships, secondary trauma, or single distressing events. The memories of these traumatic experiences interrupt their daily lives, and their trauma manifests into anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, stress reactions in the body, or problems feeling connected to others. Robin’s clients might face challenges in their relationships and are confused about what steps to take to address those challenges. Robin helps them understand their situation and move forward. Client are educated on different methods of regulating their emotions, body sensations, and ways of feeling safe and close to others.

Robin specializes in brain-body therapies including Brainspotting and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. In EMDR, clients process disturbing images to place those experiences in the past, so they can avoid experiencing trauma symptoms in the present. Robin skillfully helps clients grow their coping skills, which can be helpful in any moments of distress. Clients learn how to stay grounded and practice mindfulness through self-awareness. Robin then takes them through somatic therapy, building a stronger connection between mind and body.

Robin studied at both McKendree University and the University of Illinois. She has several years experience working with children, teens, and adults who have experienced abuse and trauma. She was a career military officer and pilot, so is very familiar with the desire to excel in a career while juggling the demands of home life. She empowers adults to feel courageous, learn healthy boundaries, and to take control over their trauma so they can live peaceful, happy lives. Robin uses focused treatment plans, guidance, and education to help clients learn to trust and gain understanding into their past.

Message to clients

Have you been frustrated with therapy in the past? I've left therapy myself when the counselor just stared at me nodding and agreeing! I will challenge, comfort, support, and educate you during our sessions. This is how modern therapy should work. You'll finish therapy understanding a lot about yourself that you didn't realize when you started and have a path forward.

I specialize in helping women gain a deeper understanding of their strengths, fears, and experiences that led to who they are today so they can move forward with confidence. Maybe you had a recent traumatic incident like an attack, health scare, trial, or auto accident and you feel lost all of a sudden, unable to function like your usual self at home and work. Or, you have a longer history of repeated exposure to abuse or traumatic experiences. Maybe an upcoming event has you frozen in fear? EMDR therapy has helped people like yourself get past that distress you feel now, to go on to live happy, successful lives.

I’m a therapist you can relate to in life, career, and relationship experiences. You want customized services that fit a busy schedule. Choose from weekly 60 or 90-min sessions, or 1-3 day EMDR Intensive retreats to clear out pain quickly or to get a jump start on what you’re working on with your regular talk therapist. All of these options can be done in person or online. EMDR consultation is also available for therapists.
