Ryan Cyrus is a psychotherapist based in Brooklyn, New York. He specializes in psychodynamic and mindfulness-based treatment approaches to depression, anxiety, trauma including PTSD, and issues related to self-esteem, creativity, as well as relationships, intimacy, and parenthood.

Ryan was awarded a Fellowship in Psychoanalysis this year from the Psychoanalytic Association of New York (PANY, affiliated with NYU Langone Medical School). He brings to his practice over a decade of past experience in fields that emphasize creativity, collaboration, and harnessing the connection between the mind and the body. These experiences include training in Yoga and insight-oriented (Vipassana) meditation and years as an elite athlete representing the USA and competing at the international level. Message to clients

My approach is grounded in the idea that therapy is a collaborative, creative process between therapist and client in which the two, together, engage in a rigorous, honest, and nonjudgemental exploration of the often conflicting and contradictory parts of the client’s mind. My experiences have taught me that engaging in an open-ended, inquisitive, honest dialogue in therapy cultivates increased insight, self-awareness, and a deeper connection to one's emotional life which can facilitate healing and recovery from depression, anxiety, compulsive and impulsive behavior, debilitating (“toxic”) shame, and other obstacles to a rich and fulfilling existence.

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - Healing painful experiences and memories from the past

Self-esteem - Cultivating self-compassion, assertiveness, and confidence; developing ways to reduce suffering, anxiety, social withdrawal, and self-neglect

Social anxiety - Helping clients increase confidence and ability to interact with others amidst fear of being judged, worry about embarrassment, or concern about offending others

Couples counseling - Addressing relationship challenges and life transitions; strengthening communication and feelings of security, desire, connection, and love
