Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, LMFTAsking for the same basic needs has worn you out. You express needs that have become a list of letdowns. When you try and talk with your partner, he shuts down and gets defensive. On the other end, you feel like you can’t do anything right. You don’t even feel she likes you anymore. You spend all your energy walking on eggshells, so you don’t have to endure another argument. You still love each other but need help breaking out of this pattern.
I'm Ryan - relationship translator and pacer. Using researched communication tools, we’ll break your relationship out of the old patterns and start a new dialogue. By creating a safe space to express your needs, we’ll restore the intimacy and joy between you. You’ll learn to hear the meaning beneath your partner’s need and turn conflict into opportunities for connection. As an Emotionally Focused Couples therapist, I am trained to see the pattern as the problem, not a person. While I validate the feelings of both partners, I don't take sides. To create momentum and hope, we work on 1-3 core issues so we aren't simply processing the latest argument of the week.
As a journalism major at Michigan State University, I once interviewed a person for a story where most of the conversation was off the record. The person indicated that she felt renewed and less stressed, like working during a therapy session. After much reflection, I shifted gears and pursued Post-graduate training in Marriage and Family Therapy. Through speaking Nationally to corporations about emotional intelligence, sharing tips on communication improved business relationships and reduced stress.
