Professional statement

Sam Barr is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Associate located in Asheville, NC. He is passionate about helping adults facing challenges with anxiety, depression, or trauma. Often the stress of a career leads to feelings of overwhelm, especially if there’s pressure for excellence. Sometimes, previous traumatic experiences can turn everyday routines into situations surrounded by panic, frustration, or other negative emotions. Many of Sam’s clients seek therapy to decrease the negative impacts of their mental health on their lives and relationships. By addressing challenges from the past, Sam helps clients create a more peaceful present and future through addressing and integrating the past and it’s many challenges.

Sam’s approach to therapy draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based therapy. Clients go through values clarification exercises with Sam’s guidance, learning more about what’s important to them and why. He makes mindfulness less intimidating by offering clients short, actionable mindfulness techniques to employ throughout their day to increase the usage of healthy coping strategies. Overall, he lets clients lead the way when it comes to their sessions so they can get effective results out of therapy.

Sam earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne Asheville. He has previous work experience in diverse settings like homeless shelters, wilderness therapy, universities, and transitional therapy programs. He is a nonjudgmental and warm therapist who builds strong trust with the people he meets in his practice.

Message to clients

Growth and change as a human being is not a linear path and that can be incredibly frustrating. Elements of ourselves that we thought we had previously dealt with continue to pop up in our day-to-day lives and make it feel like we are back to square one- what the actual heck. I am deeply committed to helping individuals navigate through life's challenges with compassion, understanding, and healing.

I invite you to reach out to schedule today Healing and transformation is possible with some openness, patience, and perseverance. I look forward to supporting you in your growth and healing.
