Professional statement

Dr. Sara Teta is a Licensed Psychologist who provides therapy services both in-person in Brooklyn, and via teletherapy for clients in New York State. Her clients tend to experience anxiety, depression, relationship issues, stress or adjustment challenges related to life transitions, work, school, medical diagnoses and treatments, chronic pain, or identity explorations. Dr. Teta also brings particular expertise to supporting neurodivergent individuals with adhd or autistic experiences and parents of young children and children with behavioral and learning difficulties, as well as developmental delays.

Dr. Teta takes an integrative approach that is rooted in systems theory and incorporates attachment, developmental, and mind-body holistic frameworks. Her focus is on collaborating with clients to develop their capacity to meet achievable goals. This can include frustration tolerance and emotional self-regulation, self-advocacy, resilience, communication strategies, and boundary setting. Dr. Teta uses a variety of evidence-based techniques tailored to the needs of her clients. She is an EMDR-trained practitioner, is a Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) certified practitioner, and a Level 1 Kripalu Mindful Outdoor Guide (KMOG) which supports wilderness/ walk and talk therapy experiences. When appropriate moving sessions to a nature-based setting has the potential to nurture and elevate both processing experiences and traumas, as well as, the development of mindful tools.

For the motivated client, Dr. Teta offers an opt-in self-care option that incorporates both the therapy process and an added mental health and wellness support. Assessing the clients' lifestyle, food routines, and environmental exposures leads to creating specific action steps to support the client with progress towards their treatment goals and optimizing their everyday mental health.

Dr. Teta has a rich history in working with systems; this includes schools, the family system, and organizations.

Message to clients

Health and wellness are not linear and will only evolve within a dynamic and complex interplay of the many systems in our lives. I firmly believe that promoting mental health is a part of this interplay. I can help you with exploring those systems relevant to your mental health and developing strategies and routines to promote a robust everyday experience. I call this promoting your mental “Wellth”; because we can consider ourselves wealthy when our whole being is supported and living in abundance, not just our financials.

My hope for the clients that I work with is that you will find the experience of working on your presenting needs and concerns to be a robust challenge. One that brings you closer to being the person you know you can be and closer to maintaining the lifestyle and relationships that are ideal for you.
