Professional statement

Sarah Pisa Gano is a professional counselor outside of the Philadelphia area. She works with adults of all ages, with a special focus on parents. Many of Sarah’s clients come in to address anxiety, depression, life transitions, maternal mental health, and postpartum challenges. Sarah is particularly passionate about serving new parents and those with young children.

Sarah has been trained in trauma-focused, strengths-based, client-centered therapies. These methods aim to identify the relationship between one's past experiences and current anxiety patterns, while building on clients' inner strengths rather than focusing on deficits. She believes the client is best able to decide what to explore, how, and at which pace. This approach supports clients in making decisions that are more aligned with their values.

Sarah's style is warm, thoughtful, and non-judgmental. When first starting therapy, she will work to understand each client's goals for therapy and how they envision the process. In session, Sarah incorporates breathing exercises and grounding tools as appropriate and discusses how they can be practiced in stressful situations outside of therapy.

Sarah received her MSEd from University of Pennsylvania in School & Mental Health Counseling in 2011. Since graduation, she has practiced in a variety of settings, including hospitals, community clinics, and small businesses while accruing supervision hours. She earned her LPC in the state of PA in 2014 and then in the state of NJ in 2015. She went on to join a private group counseling practice providing therapy in an outpatient setting until 2016 when she decided to take a leave to be home with her three children before returning to work in 2023.

Outside of private practice, Sarah enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family. Sarah currently offers remote counseling sessions with a goal to offer an in-person option in the near future.

Message to clients

I believe that therapy is for everybody. We all come from diverse backgrounds with very different experiences, and at a minimum, it can be very eye-opening to have a better understanding of how we think, what inspires us, and why we do the things we do. Therapy offers the space and time for that type of introspection. And I have found that when we better understand ourselves, we can more easily achieve our goals.

Whether life has thrown one too many curveballs your way or you're looking to process some past experiences that seem to be getting in the way of your current goals, therapy can help change feel possible. The support and guidance of a neutral voice allows us to see things from a fresh lens and practice new skills. My ultimate goal is to create a safe space for clients to gain insight, grow, and make the desired changes.

If you feel we may be a good fit, please reach out! I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation so we can get a feel for what it might be like to work together.
