Professional statement

Sarah Goldman is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in Spartanburg, South Carolina, who primarily works with women across the lifespan with a special focus on perinatal mood disorders. Many of her clients find themselves struggling with their interpersonal relationships, careers, life balance, parenthood, or self-identity. Sarah is aware of how difficult life transitions can become for individuals, such as becoming a parent, changing jobs, moving cities, or other life-altering moments, as they can often lead to symptoms of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, change or shift in identity and or life goals.

Sarah's approach is rooted in both Interpersonal Therapy as well as Mindfulness Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, evidence-based approaches to target change based on the client's goals for themselves by focusing on helping clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected. She also incorporates other approaches to therapy based on the client's needs and presenting problems as well as the client's personality as she understands we all need different things at different times in our lives. One size does not fit all.

Sarah is focused on ensuring that her clients see real progress: her style is interactive, non-judgmental, compassionate, and client-centered. As a trauma-informed therapist, Sarah is sensitive to the influence of past trauma on present challenges wihtin a client's life and works closely with clients to reframe the narrative of their life in a way that increases self-confidence and self-compassion.

Sarah’s first priority in starting with a new client is ensuring that they feel safe and heard in the therapeutic process. As a seasoned telehealth provider having started as a clinician in the Covid-19 pandemic era, she offers the convenience of remote sessions to help make therapy a core component of your self-care and wellbeing.

Message to clients

In today's demanding world it sometimes is not as easy as one would hope to be themselves without fear of judgment or shame. I understand that sometimes our worlds don't align and we live two different lives. It is exhausting to wear that other mask and it is ok if you need to do so. It's ok to be tired and need a place to work through things without judgment to decipher what your next step in life may be.

I also understand that as a new parent, your world changes. Whether you are the birthing parent, partner, adoptive parent, or foster parent- parenting is hard and nothing prepares you for the transition to parenthood. The first, second, third, etc, time. It is HARD. That transitions into difficulty sometimes as a partner, sibling, friend, or co-worker and leaves us reeling to understand how we are supposed to make it all work.

No matter what your issue is (anxiety, depression, mood disorder, life transition, perinatal issue, divorce, trauma, abuse, etc) it is ok to need help and it is ok to ask for help. We all need help sometimes in life and asking for it is the first step in addressing your mental health needs and using self-care to tend to yourself. I hope you reach out and see if we would be a good fit as I strive to aid my client's in learning the tools to achieve their mental health goals.
