Sean Chatmon is a licensed marriage and family therapist in Sacramento. He is committed to working with adolescents and adults who are struggling with navigating their traumatic or negative experiences, anxiety and depression. Many of his clients come in struggling with relationship issues, imposter syndrome, difficulties managing their mood, feelings of not being good enough, struggles with low self esteem, doubt and trouble feeling safe in their daily lives. He also has advanced training and experience integrating spiritual/religious beliefs, creative forms of expression and athletics/movement into the healing journey.
Sean draws on his training and experience in using CBT, DBT, and mindfulness based work. His eclectic approach helps his clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings and behavior and how shifting/challenging negative thoughts, and beliefs can help influence changes in their mood and behaviors. During this process, Sean helps his clients build upon their current strengths while learning how they can better respond to their triggers and find safety within their own mind and body. This has often led Sean’s clients to make healthier connections to their support systems and feel empowered to make choices in their lives that align with their values and goals.
Sean’s style is patient and understanding. Sean’s first focus is on building a relationship where his clients can feel safe to share their pain and experience peace even in the midst of their emotional suffering. Sean looks to validate the struggles his clients are experiencing so they can make sense of their current feelings and actions. Sean believes that his clients should be in the driver seat of their healing journey and joins by their side as a copilot to help them navigate the obstacles and bumps along the way while helping them learn and heal from the pain of their past.
