Dr. Shaina Bernardi is a licensed clinical psychologist based in NY, focused on helping individuals overcome emotional distress and increase resiliency strategies. She often sees clients that are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and exhibiting symptoms of anxiety or depression. She often works with clients during times of transition, new parents, maternal mental health, working mothers, and college and graduate students. Many of her clients want to understand the connection between past experiences and patterns in their current lives to find greater satisfaction in their relationships, personal endeavors, or career goals. Dr. Bernardi focuses on unhelpful habits, building new coping skills, emotion regulation techniques, and facilitating new thought patterns.
Dr. Bernardi’s approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), both evidence based approaches to help manage and improve anxiety and mood challenges. Dr. Bernardi helps clients identify and challenge negative self-talk, maladaptive patterns, and cognitive distortions. She helps patients recognize how they are feeling, learn skills to reduce emotional reactivity, and acquire adaptive coping strategies. She also integrates psychodynamic and family systems perspectives so clients can gain a better understanding of the roots of their symptoms to foster lasting change.
Dr. Bernardi approach is collaborative, warm, engaging, and goal-oriented. She infuses humor and creativity in her work with clients, and creates a safe and genuine environment. She believes the therapeutic relationship is foundational to make meaningful change with clients. She believes the client needs to feel safe and heard before therapy can focus on change. Dr. Bernardi conducts remote therapy services allowing clients to attend from the comfort and privacy of their own space.
