Professional statement

Sharon Barbour is a clinical mental health counselor in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. She works with individual adults of all ages. Many of Sharon’s clients come in to address trauma, life transitions, betrayal, and anxiety. Sharon is particularly passionate about serving trauma survivors, young adults, young parents, retirees, and empty nesters. She also has advanced training in the area of post traumatic stress disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.

Sharon is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which utilizes bilateral stimulation of the brain, in order to bring the whole brain online while intentionally processing disturbing or traumatic memories/thoughts/feelings. This approach supports clients to feel freedom from previous triggers, so they are able to change unconsciously held negative beliefs which have haunted them.

Sharon also utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), exploring exercises that bring a clients attention toward various thoughts and beliefs in order to challenge long held perceptions that are painful, dysfunctional, and/or keeping them stuck. Sharon also teaches clients to use Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), which utilizes tapping on various points on the body, in order to stimulate the nervous system in a calming and/or mindful way..

Additionally in session, Sharon focuses on 4-7-8 breathing techniques, journalling, and psychoeducation through books, audios, meditations, and/or worksheets.

Sharon received her Masters of Counseling and Psychology from Troy University. She has worked extensively with affair betrayal issues at Currents Counseling Services. Outside of private practice, She enjoys many art modalities, including alcohol ink paintings of endangered animals, and making Kintsugi pieces with ceramics.

Message to clients

When clients first start therapy, I am interested to find out what their hopes are for the therapeutic process. What would you like to feel as you move forward, and who do you imagine yourself to be as you shed the burdens of trauma and self doubt? It is always my goal to make you feel sincerely heard, encouraged, and supported.

At this time, I offer exclusively online or phone appointments. However, I have found that the same healing is just as possible whether we are in the same room or not. I have seen many, many clients get incredible healing relief through our video and phone appointments.

I sincerely hope you are the next person I will be honored to work with on your healing journey.
