Sharon Barbour is a clinical mental health counselor in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles. She works with individual adults of all ages. Many of Sharon’s clients come in to address trauma, life transitions, betrayal, and anxiety. Sharon is particularly passionate about serving trauma survivors, young adults, young parents, retirees, and empty nesters. She also has advanced training in the area of post traumatic stress disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.
Sharon is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which utilizes bilateral stimulation of the brain, in order to bring the whole brain online while intentionally processing disturbing or traumatic memories/thoughts/feelings. Sharon also utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), exploring exercises that bring a clients attention toward various thoughts and beliefs in order to challenge long held perceptions that are painful, dysfunctional, and/or keeping them stuck. Sharon also teaches clients to use Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), which utilizes tapping on various points on the body, in order to stimulate the nervous system in a calming and/or mindful way..
Additionally in session, Sharon focuses on 4-7-8 breathing techniques, journalling, and psychoeducation through books, audios, meditations, and/or worksheets.
