Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, LPC-A National Certified Counselor, NCC Master of Science, MSShaughnessy Herren is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate supervised by Leslie Larson, LPC-S in Austin, TX specializing in young adults and adults experiencing a wide variety of issues including depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, trauma, grief, and life transitions. Many of her clients struggle with feeling overwhelmed facing their resonating thoughts and behaviors and react to daily situations with heightened emotional responses such as anger, sadness, and insecurity. Shaughnessy works with her clients to better understand what the current challenges are, in which ways they are manifesting, and how to confront these issues in a meaningful and lasting way.
In session with Shaughnessy, clients learn more about their thoughts and behaviors as well as how their thoughts and behaviors impact their emotions. Using integrated therapy approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Shaughnessy teaches clients to be more self aware by helping them identify harmful thought patterns, challenge these thoughts and utilize experimentation/exposure to increase likelihood of behavioral change. With unique goals for each client, Shaughnessy uses values and goal-setting to help clients identify places for improvements and build new habits.
Shaughnessy earned her degree from Texas A&M University. She believes that every challenge is an opportunity to grow and connect with ourselves. Together she hopes to help her clients develop a new relationship with themselves and from overcoming life obstacles, learn to nurture the parts of themselves that have been wounded.
