Professional statement

Shaysa Villa is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Chicago, IL and Washington, DC who specializes in anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, relationships, infidelity, and identity-based concerns. She frequently works with individuals, as well as couples.

Shaysa’s approach is unerringly culturally sensitive; she deeply enjoys working with clients who are persons of color. She understands that one of the biggest items is difficulty finding a therapist who shares one’s own culture and background, and she strives to validate what clients experience as a POC in the workplace and beyond.

In her work with couples, she often incorporates the Gottman Method, as she has completed Level-3 training and in route to certification. She will typically start their work together using the Gottman Checkup Assessment to help the couple get oriented in the practice, as well as for her to get to understand the couple’s dynamic on a deeper level. Shaysa deeply understands how relationships go through cycles and the importance of establishing connection, understanding, and intimacy in the relationship.

Shaysa cares deeply about each of her client’s unique experiences, and maintains a compassionate respect for every individual who walks in her door. She looks forward to meeting you online or in South Loop, where her office is located.

Message to clients

As a modern therapist, I provide culturally sensitive, unique, and creative therapy to help individuals and couples. I understand how hard it can be to find a therapist that seems relatable or trustworthy. I work particularly well with individuals navigating anxiety, identity, relationship, aftermath of infidelity, and trauma looking for a therapist that "gets it". This may be an overwhelming point in your life, but pursuing psychotherapy can be one of the most transformative experiences you can take to heal & grow.

As your therapist, I will help you navigate ways your thoughts may be negatively impacting your life. I will help you learn ways to manage and pursue the goal of not allowing anxiety and trauma to derail your days. My role will be to help you explore and identify unclear reasons that prevent you from living or having your envisioned life.

My approach is compassionate and to truly listen. I seek to be in-tune with you as an individual and as a couple and help you move through pain and distress to have the life you desire.
