Professional statement

Sheena Kaas Mudaliar is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor located in Graham, WA. Many of Sheena’s clients come to therapy because they want to know more about themselves and also want to develop their coping skills. Sheena treats clients who suffer from anxiety, depression, panic, PTSD, phobias, or other difficult emotional states due to the experience of trauma. She also provides couples counseling for couples who are in conflict, going through a major transition such as marriage, or simply want to deepen their bonds with one another.

Sheena’s approach to therapy is trauma-informed, which means that she takes special care when working with clients who have trauma backgrounds. Her main goal is to create a therapeutic atmosphere that is kind, compassionate, and one that feels safe for clients. She practices an evidence-based modality called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, which helps clients harness their brain’s processing power to overcome heightened emotional reactions to difficult memories. She also uses Internal Family Systems to help clients learn more about their backgrounds and identities.

Sheena earned a Master’s degree from Saint Martin’s University. She has over eight years of experience supporting individuals and couples. When appropriate, Sheena may bring in elements of Christian Counseling upon client preference. She offers clients space for self-exploration while also equipping them with the tools they need to face any difficult situation.

Message to clients

Welcome. I am delighted to have you here.

I am a woman of Coast Salish heritage; I worked for many years helping indigenous men and women heal from the effects of historical and intergenerational trauma. I have come to believe that we each carry emotional baggage from previous generations, whether from inside our families or from greater society. I also believe that each of us is responsible for our own healing and that professionals like myself can help fill in the gaps.

When you work with me for individual treatment, you will learn skills to immediately manage symptoms. Because life stress can block the mind from healing, you will gain support to navigate challenging life circumstances that contribute to your stress. Even when your mind knows how to cope and stress has decreased, your body can still trigger the message that something is wrong; you will have the opportunity to process difficult memories so that your body can come up to date.

Emotional baggage can affect your intimate relationship; however, your relationship may also provide a rich opportunity to heal from past wounding. In couples counseling, you will learn to communicate in productive ways. You and your partner will come to understand how your relationship dynamics perpetuate conflict, and you will develop new dynamics to better serve each of you and your relationship.

Whether seeking individual treatment or couples treatment, your path to healing can become bigger than yourself and you create a new legacy to pass on to future generations.
